Ceramics
My ceramic tiles also take on a botanical theme, and are created by hand with the help of various molds and carving tools to make the shapes and impressions. At times, they are reproduced using plaster molds that I make using the original tile as a template. These plaster molds are then filled with wet slip and when the slip dries the tile is formed.
Other tiles are made by carving the image directly into a plaster block. The block is then used to press into the wet clay, which when cut into shape creates the tile.
Once the tiles are dry, they are fired in a kiln, painted with three coats of colored underglaze, topped with three coats of clear glaze which makes the shiny finish, and then fired again in the kiln to create the finished piece.

My quilted bowls are hand built using vintage fabric printing blocks to make the various designs in the many individual pieces that are assembled together to make the bowl. I arrange the wet clay pieces in a rigid form to create the bowl shape, and once the clay has hardened I am able to remove it from the form, fire it in a kiln, paint on three coats of glaze, and fire it in the kiln again to create the one of a kind finished piece. These too, usually have a botanical theme with geometric shapes included on occasion.
Crocheted Jewelry
Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve been attracted to the lacy qualities of crocheted work. My hand crocheted jewelry is made using wire and beads in the colors and combinations that make me happy. I enjoy exploring and working with an endless array of colors and the abundance of materials available. In particular, I am most attracted to pearls and beads that remind me of the tranquility of the sea.
